Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
